Erie County Soldiers

James W Comfort, a World War I veteran, was the editor of the publication Erie County in the World War. These photos appear in the publication as men once attached to the 313th Machine Gun Battalion, 80th Division, from Erie County.

In a note to the readers, he writes, ..."duty, during the war, is a thing for the performance of which, one deserves no praise. Nor, do we believe, do civilians. And so, in hopes that this book will serve the purpose for which it was intended - that of presenting a record of Erie County in the World War, the contents are presented to the people of Erie."
